Healthy Children - Exercise

At Sparthfield Happy Day Nursery we fully understand the importance of exercise to children's well-being and development. Over the Nursery day children will be active in many different ways, both indoors and outdoors.

"Providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food." - EYFS 2017

Healthy Children - Food

All food at nursery is freshly prepared and carefully planned to be well balanced and nutritious. The nursery believes that the provision of high-quality and nutritionally balanced meals, snacks and drinks is a key element in the effective care of children in early years. Children are provided with breakfast, morning snack, lunch and afternoon tea. Meals and snacks are a very important part of the day here at Sparthfield Happy Day Nursery and they represent an important social occasion for children which they should look forward to. Children can benefit greatly from the experience of sharing meal times with their peers and the staff whilst encouraging good eating habits and table manners. We have developed a routine for the children so that they can be involved in the mealtime routine. This helps them to develop a sense of responsibility and independence as well as learning.

We will discuss with you any dietary requirements at registration.

Healthy Children - Drinks

In our aim to support children's health and well-being we encourage all children to drink water and milk in nursery.

Healthy Children - Independence

Mealtimes is used as  great opportunity to develop children's own independence and decision making skills. All nursery children are encouraged to wash their own hands, select and serve their own food, wipe their own faces, as well as helping with the mealtime routine. We talk to the children about why we wash our hands before meals so that they understand the importance of this routine. Children at nursery also enjoy role play activities to develop their understanding of caring for themselves and making healthy choices.

Your childs key person will work with you when your child is ready to be potty/toilet trained.

"Highly effective strategies to promote children's independence ensure they are well prepared for
transition to their next stage of learning." - Ofsted 2018

Healthy Children - Sleep

Within all nursery rooms there are areas where children can relax and rest. Nursery will work with you to maintain your children's sleep time routines. Those children who sleep during the nursery day have their own sleep time bag with their own blankets and comforters.

We will discuss with you in detail the sleep routines you have established for your child and how we can best accommodate them into the routines and working day of the nursery. These discussions will need to be ongoing as the sleep needs of your child will change as he or she grows and develops

Healthy Children - Teeth

Here at Sparthfield Happy Day Nursery, we want to make sure that all our children are healthy and that their teeth are "happy teeth". Across the nursery we talk to our children daily about the importance of brushing their teethe also use stories, rhymes, songs, and role play to try to make tooth brushing an exciting part of our children's daily home routine.

we work in partnership with our parents to provide support and guidance to ensure our children attend a dentist regularly and have a healthy tooth brushing routine.

We love to celebrate the success of our children brushing their teeth and we enjoy hearing about our children's visits to the dentist.

Healthy Children - Well-being

We understand our children's emotional well-being is just as important as their physical health. We aim to create a culture of positive mental well-being; we do this through stories, positive praise, celebrating achievements and talking about our feelings. We provide an environment for our children to feel safe and secures they are able to express their emotions through different activities.

As well as this we have embedded the 'myHappymind' programme throughout the nursery. Through an online app this o offers information and resources for our parents to access so they are able to enjoy a range of activities together at home with their child.
